Monessen, PA.—The City of Monessen in coordination with the City of Monessen Fire Department No. 1 and City of Monessen Fire Department Hose House No. 2, the City of Monessen Police Department, and the Mon Valley EMS are closely monitoring the approaching Winter storm scheduled appear this weekend and into Monday in the Mon Valley, and wishes to assure all residents and businesses that municipal and public safety agencies are fully prepared to respond to any weather related conditions that may arise in the next few days.

City Officials and their Emergency Response partners have taken proactive steps to ensure adequate staffing, equipment readiness, and operational coordination throughout the duration of the storm. Public Safety agencies are prepared to respond to emergencies, provide assistance during potential power outages, and address weather related incidents as conditions arise.

Residents are strongly encouraged to plan ahead, limit unnecessary travel during severe weather periods, and to check on and monitor vulnerable neighbors, particularly seniors, and those with medical needs.  Individuals who may require non-emergency assistance, including help related to power outages or emergency oxygen or related health needs and requirements, are urged to contact the City’s Emergency Operations Center for Support for this Snow and Weather Event as follows:

Weather Operations

The Emergency Center’s Contact Information for Support is:    

  • For Non-Emergency Requests for Service Residents should Call 724-684-7833.    
  • For All Emergency Calls Residents should call 911.

The City of Monessen has plans to open warming shelters during the emergency, to ensure that residents have access to a safe and heated environment. Additional information regarding the first location at the City of Monessen Civic Center at 861 Donner Avenue in Monessen can be obtained through City of Monessen City Administrator Michael Korposh at 724-684-9000, Ext. 100 or 724-289-7018.

The Monessen Public Works Department will have Crews deployed and operating at full capacity throughout the storm period, focusing on storm removal, roadway treatment, and maintaining access for emergencies and first response vehicles.

Upon recommendation of the Operations Center personnel at their coordination meeting held this morning, it was recommended for both the safety of the residents and our City of Monessen employees that the Monessen City Hall and the Civic Center be closed for business and activities Sunday and this upcoming Monday due to the anticipated severe weather conditions.

Last, the City of Monessen through its Mayor Ron Mozer, is following with the Governor and the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania in instituting an Emergency and Disaster Declaration for the City of Monessen during the pendency of the Storm, and following the direction of PEMA, FEMA, and all related Federal and State Agencies and Departments for any and all assistance or direction in managing the upcoming storm conditions and events.
